Leroy O. Rogers


Leroy O. Rogers was a native of Huntington, West Virginia. His family moved to Columbia, South Carolina when he was eight years old.  He was educated in the public schools of Richland County and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School.

After graduating from high school, Mr. Rogers served in the United States Army during World War II. Upon completing his tour of duty, Mr. Rogers attended Allen University where he excelled in football and baseball. He received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health and Physical Education.

Leroy Rogers was employed at C.A. Johnson High School in Columbia, South Carolina for thirty-one years. He served as a beloved teacher, mentor, coach, father figure, and disciplinarian for countless number of students that passed through the halls of C.A. Johnson. He coached baseball and golf. He also served as assistant football and baseball coach. “Coach Rogers”, as he was affectionately called, was an avid golfer and loved the game to the fullest.

Coach Rogers was supported in his endeavors by his wife Thelma and sons Leroy and Ronnie.
